He is also a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow and a former scholar of the German Academic Merit Foundation.

Ruizhi holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and MSc/BSc degrees from ETH Zurich. He has co-authored over 20 scientific publications with more than 700 citations.

Paolo leads Abselion’s research and development across sensing, consumables, assay development, and applications.

He is a recognised expert in non-optical biosensing, with foundational contributions to electrochemical detection technologies.

Prior to Abselion, Paolo worked at STMicroelectronics in semiconductor R&D. His academic research includes first-author publications in Nature Communications and other high-impact journals. He holds a PhD from the University of Brescia.

Jean-Paul is responsible for turning prototypes into fully developed products, overseeing the design and manufacture of customer-ready instruments and consumables.

With a background in engineering from the University of Cambridge, he brings over a decade of experience in developing electromechanical benchtop systems for life sciences. Jean-Paul has taken six instruments from concept to production, combining technical expertise with a deep commitment to quality and cross-functional collaboration.

Simon leads Abselion’s board and supports the executive team with strategic guidance built on over 30 years of life sciences experience.

He has held senior roles at Amersham International, ICI, and Zeneca, and was Chief Executive of Tepnel Life Sciences, a listed diagnostics company.

He has served as CEO or Executive Chair for multiple venture-backed life science companies, leading successful exits and an AIM listing. Simon currently chairs Fusion Antibodies plc and Omega Diagnostics Group plc, and advises Sensam Ltd on cancer diagnostics.

Ollie supports Abselion with strategic insight into scaling innovation in bioprocessing and life science tools. He is Entrepreneur in Residence at M Ventures and brings a strong track record as a founder and operator in the sector.

He founded Puridify, a biotech tools company focused on purification technology, and led it through venture funding to acquisition by GE Healthcare. With experience spanning start-ups and large corporates, Ollie brings a deep understanding of the commercialisation journey. He holds an EngD from University College London.

Luke represents BGF’s early-stage investment team and supports Abselion’s growth with his expertise in life sciences strategy and operations. He has worked across venture investment and company building, including at Wren Therapeutics and Ombu Group.

Luke began his career at the Boston Consulting Group and holds a PhD in Biophysics from the University of Cambridge, where his research focused on microfluidics and protein misfolding. He brings a strong scientific foundation and operational experience to the board.
